While four countries were scheduled to participate, only Great Britain and France competed in a two-day event. Neither of the sides was nationally selected, but were instead touring clubs. For nearly a decade, the significance of the event was unknown to even the participating sides. Strangely, the event is not included in the highest category of competitions by the sport's Governing body. What event are we talking about?

Having retired from her sport in 2008, this professional athlete was at the top of her sport in the early 1990s. However, her downfall was brought about in 1993 by a man named Gunter Parche, in what can only be described as one of the most shocking on-court incidents. Following this incident, the Australian Band Young Elders composed a song for her, as did the Detroit band, Majesty Crush. Her downfall, as well as her eventual re-emergence, has made her one of the most popular athletes of all time. Identify.
